FMI models

Models used by FIMR:

BalEco  is a coupled physical, chemical and ecological 3-dimensional ocean model.

Wave Forecast model -  Wave forecasts are updated four times a day at FIMR.The forecasts are made by the third-generation wave modell WAM. The wave model needs wind direction and speed data provided by the Finnish Meteorological Institute to base its calculations on.

Drift Forecast -  FIMR calculates drift forecasts to help search and rescue at sea. These forecasts have also been used to predict the drifting of algal blooms on the surface during the summer.
